Die Grenzen deiner Sprache sind die Grenzen deiner Welt. The limits of your language are the limits of your world.
-Ludwig Wittgenstein, Philosopher
Fluency in foreign languages is simply essential in today's global community. The World Affairs Council strongly supports foreign language education.
Our foreign language programs include:
Foreign Language Symposiums Since 2001, the Education Outreach Program has hosted its Foreign Language Symposium Series. We invite all Houston area secondary schools and colleges with foreign language programs to participate. Our goal is to reward students for their efforts in learning a second language as well as to recognize teachers for their work in fostering a love of languages.
In 2007, we will host luncheons in Spanish, French, Russian, Italian, Japanese, German, Chinese, and Arabic.
Global Ambassadors Program Speaker to School SeriesThis speaker to school series offers an opportunity for study abroad students, undergraduate and graduate level international students, and returned peace corps volunteers to visit foreign language classes and share their language skills and cultural experiences. Please let us know if you are interested in knowing of speakers by e-mailing outreach@wachouston.org
Noon BriefingsAn opportunity for foreign language students to attend informative, luncheon briefings. Noon briefings serve to improve the foreign language students' cultural knowledge of countries speaking their chosen language. Students and teachers are hosted at no cost to them.
Noon Briefings are typically announced on our website and via e-mail. If you are interested in being notified email edu@wachouston.org
