The Council

The World Affairs Council is one of Houston's most prestigious citizen forums. Through varied and substantive programs, the Council presents all sides of current global issues, promotes better understanding of international relations and contributes to national and international policy debates. The result is a better educated citizenry and the advancement of Houston as an important international center.

Council membership brings you:

  • Over 80 events each year including evening forums, luncheon programs, dinners and receptions
  • Access to senior government officials, world leaders, journalists, and policy makers
  • Candid discussions with opinion leaders
  • Information that is timely and in-depth
  • A connection to others in Houston who share your interests and concerns

Incorporated in 1990, the World Affairs Council of Houston is an affiliate of the World Affairs Councils of America and is now the third largest Council in the nation. We are supported by the membership contributions of over 5,000 citizens, corporations and foundations.

"Difference of opinion leads to enquiry, and enquiry to truth; and that, I am sure, is the ultimate and sincere object of us both. We both value too much the freedom of opinion sanctioned by our Constitution, not to cherish its exercise even where in opposition to ourselves."
Thomas Jefferson to P. H. Wendover, 1815. ME 14:283
