History is littered with examples of bad leaders. Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe is only one of many who have clearly brought great harm to their countries. Less obvious is the harm they cause to all those who must deal with them, including international business people and potential investors. Bad leadership is a global problem that affects us all.
Barbara Kellerman offers real-world examples from different spheres of society, countries, and cultures. She has developed a structure for identifying characteristics of bad leadership and followership as a guide to preventing it happening time and again.
Barbara Kellerman is the James MacGregor Burns Lecturer in Public Leadership at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. She was the Founding Executive Director of the Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership, from 2000 to 2003; and from 2003 to 2006 she served as the Center’s Research Director. Kellerman has held professorships at Fordham, Tufts, Fairleigh Dickinson, George Washington, and Uppsala Universities. Kellerman received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University. She is the author of Bad Leadership: What It Is, How It Happens, Why It Matters and Followership: How Followers are Creating Change and Changing Leaders. |
